Decision to repatriate Mohammed to Kenya had been notified last month.
This makes him to become the first detainee to be transferred in more than a year.
The detainee’s name is Mohammed Abdul Malik Baajabu who had been detained since 2007.
According to CNN, Department of Defense Fillings stated that Mohammed was a facilitator for Al Qaeda in East Africa before he was detained.
He was arrested by Kenyan authorities in Mombasa in 2007 but was transferred to Guantanamo weeks later where he spent years without formal charges or trial.
The US robbed an innocent man of the best years of his life, separating him from his wife and young children when they most needed him.
Mohammed’s Lawyer Defense team stated.

His misery began with him being tortured during his official detention in Kenya which continued after he was transferred to U.S custody.
The least US can do is to ensure that Abdul Malik receives the support and the space he needs to begin his new life.
Mohammed’s Lawyer added.
His family which has lived without him for two decades is preparing for his return to the society.
The detention facility being established in 2002, became a global symbol controversial interrogation practices and prolonged detention.
Efforts to close the facility have spanned multiple US administrators due to political and legal difficulties.
