How the new feature works
- Type the message
- Long-press the send-button
- Choose specific date and time you want the message to be delivered.
- The time zone will be based on the sender’s device settings and notification that you have ‘I scheduled message’ will show every time you open the chat until the message is delivered.

Other Updates
As per now, the feature is limited to text messages, photos and videos can only be done in real-time.
Other updates Instagram has included in the DMs include message editing, drawing on photos, sharing live location with friends and the ability for users to add nicknames for messages instead of using their Instagram names.
With the updates and future updates, Instagram seeks to take on rivals like snapchat.
