Trump Asks U.S Supreme Court To Pause Law That Could Lead To TikTok Ban

President-elect Donald Trump has requested the U.S Supreme Court to pause the enactment of a law that would ban Popular social media App TikTok or force its sale.

The new law would require TikTok’s owner ByteDance to sell the App to an American company or face a ban.

This was after the U.S. Congress voted in April to ban it unless it sells the App by January 19th.

President Trump takes no position on the underlying merits of this dispute.

D. John Sauer, Donald Trump’s lawyer said.

Instead, he respectfully requests that the Court consider staying the Act’s deadline for divestment of January 19, 2025, while it considers the merits of this case, thus permitting President Trump’s incoming administration the opportunity to pursue a political resolution of the questions at issue in the case.

He added.

The President-elect had previously met with the TikTok CEO in December hours after he expressed, he had a soft spot for the app and that he was in favor of allowing TikTok to keep operating in the United States of America for a little while.

He added that he had received billion views on the social media platform during his Presidential campaign.

Regarding the TikTok ban, the U.S Justice Department has argued the Chinese control of TikTok poses a continuing threat to national security.

The court is set to hear the case on January 10th.
