Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle make Carabao Cup Semi-Finals

Arsenal have qualified for the Semi-Finals of the League Cup, also known as the Carabao Cup, after their win against Crystal Palace at home. Despite a bad start that saw Palace take the lead in the early minutes, a few changes in the second half, including top player Martin Ødegaard, made the difference as his assist led to a Gabriel Jesus equaliser. Jesus was on fire on the night as he went on to score a hatrick, which secured Arsenal’s spot, that is despite a late scare from a former Gunner Eddie Nketiah, whose goal ended the game 3-2. Two goals within 8 minutes from Nunez and Elliot saw the game end with a 1-2 scoreline, owing to a consolation early in the second half through Cameron Archer in what was a stunning goal. Despite the early second-half goal, the Saints couldn’t ignite a comeback as Liverpool held on to avoid going to penalties against a team that had just sacked their manager. In the second half, Eddie Howe’s men added a third before Brentford got a consolation goal from Yoane Wissa. Marcus Rashford All but Confirms His Exit From Manchester United

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford looks set to leave Old Trafford if his latest interview is anything to go by. After missing out entirely on the weekend win against Manchester City at the Etihad, it seems Rashford didn’t take it lightly and saw it as a sign it was all over. Despite celebrating the win on his social media page, on Tuesday, December 17, while visiting his former school a few days later, the United forward gave an interview to reporter Harry Winter that has stunned many. In the new viral piece, Rashford revealed that he felt understood by many fans, but he’s fine with it. Reacting to Ruben Amorim’s decision to drop him for the derby, Rashford noted it was disheartening, but he was happy that the team won. “It’s disheartening to be left out of a Derby, but it’s happened, we won the game so let’s move on. It’s disappointing but I’m also someone as I’ve got older I can deal with setbacks. What am I going to do about it? Sit there and cry about it. Or do my best the next time I’m available.” 🚨 Marcus Rashford: “It’s disheartening to be left out of a Derby… but it’s happened, we won the game so let’s move on”. “It’s disappointing but I’m also someone as I’ve got older I can deal with setbacks. However, he promised to show professionalism and avoid any negative comments about his departure and remain a Red even after he leaves. “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person. “If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.” From the heart as he’ll always be a Red? “Yes! 100%. 100%.” According to Rashford, his best years are still ahead of him. At 27, he still sees that his peak is yet to come and has no regrets about his career. People want to know what Man Utd means to me!♥️ pic.twitter.com/XNBNxnKN66 — Marcus Rashford (@MarcusRashford) May 25, 2024 Rashford hopes to have great form to be picked for the 2026 World Cup in the US, which could be under the leadership of German Thomas Tuchel. Only a few teams can afford to buy Rashford. Paris Saint-Germain have been great suitors, and he’s also received love from Spain. The biggest challenge is his high wages, which only a few can match, and as it stands, many clubs cannot afford such high wages unless they are some of the richest in the world.

Amad steals three points at Manchester City as Rashford and Garnacho miss out

Amad Diallo is the name on every Manchester United fan’s lips after his heroics, which saw Manchester United snatch three points away at Etihad in the Manchester Derby. In a game of two halves that both teams tried to control, it was after the hour that it came to life, with City getting a goal from a corner and United giving away another set-piece goal. Despite this United had an okay game, nearly at the same level as City, who didn’t have a great game either. It wasn’t until the 86th minute that the game came to life with a United penalty goal with Amad Diallo’s trickery in the box after falling on the end of a poor back pass. Fernandes scored the pen. A couple of minutes later, United stole the three points with a great long pass from Lautaro Martinez that Amad latched on to get past Ederson and send in the ball from a tight angle. The goal ignited the Manchester United fans, who celebrated like they were winning the league. At that moment, it was clear that Rashford and Garnacho weren’t missed. Ruben Amorim noted he’d seen many areas in their attitude and drive that he didn’t like, so he decided to keep them out of the game completely. This would have ended badly with a defeat, but winning the game kind of proved him right. Now, the two must pull themselves together and hopefully be featured on Thursday at Tottenham Hotspurs.

Arsenal and Liverpool Both Drop Points in Title Race With Home Draws

Arsenal and Liverpool played in the Saturday Six PM fixtures, with both teams failing to emerge victorious. Despite facing teams they were expected to beat as they tried to gather points in the final first half of the season, it did not go as planned, with Everton and Fulham proving difficult opponents. Arsenal’s corners did not help Arsenal failed to close the gap to Liverpool as they were healed to a goalless draw by Everton at home, despite having the bigger chunk of possession and chances. Jordan Pickford was not tested enough for the Gunners to emerge as deserved winners, and the Merceyside Blues were able to return up north with a point. Cornes have been a big part of Arsenal’s recent success, and Gabriel Magalhães’s return was going to be huge, but despite having eight corners, they weren’t able to score. This leaves the Gunners five points behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand after their fixture against their Merseyside rivals was postponed due to bad weather. Liverpool held by Fulham at home On the other hand, Liverpool’s return to Premier League action, after a longer-than-expected break, was not fruitful as they had to come back from behind twice to earn a draw. Diogoal 🎯 pic.twitter.com/zRKjss7DBG — Liverpool FC (@LFC) December 14, 2024 Liverpool went behind early through an Andreas Pereira goal before Andrew Robertson was sent to the showers early for a denial of a goal opportunity foul on Harry Wilson. The Reds scored an equaliser early in the second half through Coady Gakpo before conceding a second goal in the 76th minute of the game through substitute Rodrigo Muniz. However, Liverpool sub Diogo Jota had other plans as he returned to action after a layoff through injury to hand Liverpool a point in the 86th minute. The two results are certainly advantageous for Liverpool who still have a game in hand and also a welcome for Chelsea who face Brentford at home on Sunday, December 14. Chelsea are currently in second place just five points behind Liverpool.

Arsenal Disappoint Against Fulham as Chelsea Prove Worthy Title Contenders

Arsenal’s disappointing draw away at Fulham has left many questioning their title capabilities despite still being in the first leg of the season. Arsenal were expected to return home with three points from the London Derby but ended up conceding first and chasing the game from then on. Despite having nearly the whole squad back, it proved difficult for them to get a second goal and ended up with a draw to put them 6 points behind Liverpool, who have a game in hand. Chelsea show might in London derby win To make it more painful for the Gooners, Chelsea came out with the three points away at Tottenham Hotspurs, putting them only 4 points behind Liverpool. Despite going two nil down, the game took a different turn in the second half as Cole Palmer equalised through a penalty to ignite a comeback. Two more goals from Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer, also a penalty, gave the Blues all three points despite a late goal from Son Heung-min. With the squad Chelsea have, and playing in the European Conference league, many see them as a serious contender for the title. However, manager Enzo Maresca still thinks they’re far away from the title and doesn’t see his team disrupting anything at the top. Sitting above Arsenal shows substance, and the Blues will have to maintain the consistency until March to see if they’re cut out for the title. Arsenal will need more goals from open play to prove they have other ways of winning apart from being the ‘kings of corners’.

Details Emerge Behind Manchester United sacking Sporting Director Dan Ashworth

Manchester United bid farewell to their sporting director just months after his promising appointment. Dan Ashworth joined Manchester United in July as the club’s first Sporting Director in the new era, only to leave five months later. This sent shockwaves around the world, with many wondering the reasons behind his sacking. According to reports, the decision was made mutually among the parties, but this will do little to encourage anyone to believe that everything is right at the club. It is emerging now that new club part-owner Jim Ratcliffe was not overly happy with Ashworth’s performance as a director. Starting with Erik Ten Hag, it seems the sporting director wanted him to remain despite a poor end to the season. 🚨🚨🌕| JUST IN: Dan Ashworth felt sidelined from big decisions at #mufc, almost from day one with Omar Berrada and Sir Dave Brailsford calling the shots. The tipping point was the Ruben Amorim appointment. Ashworth wanted a British coach, Gareth Southgate. [@alex_crook] pic.twitter.com/WGZjChpvz5 — centredevils. (@centredevils) December 8, 2024 Dan Ashworth’s managerial ideas Even with the late sacking of the Netherlands manager and leading into Ruben Amorim, reports claim Ashworth wanted Unite to hire a British manager or those based in England. His options included Eddie Howe, Gareth Southgate, or Graham Potter as interim. Thomas Frank and Marco Silva were also mentioned. Ratcliffe recently lamented the recruitment structure around United, noting how it was outdated. It seems Ashworth did not impress in his first few months, as the mentioned area is in his court. A clash of ideas between United CEO Omar Berrada and Ashworth is another reason believed to have caused tension at the club.

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United Drop 6 Points in 2 Games as Arsenal and Forest Thrive at Set Pieces

Ruben Amorim’s honeymoon at Manchester United seems to be over after the Portuguese manager’s second Premier League loss in one week. After Arsenal’s painful 2-0 defeat at the Emirates that was dominated by the Gunner’s corners, which ended up giving them two goals, it was no different in their game against Nottingham Forest.   The Saturday, December 8, night football match at Old Trafford had not even gone for a few minutes before Forest took the lead through a corner scored by Nikola Milenković. Despite getting an equaliser nearly 15 minutes later through striker Rasmus Højlund, it went from bad to worse as two quick goals early in the second half saw United forced to fight for a draw. ⏱️ Into seven minutes of stoppage time… COME ON UNITED! 👏#MUFC || #MUNNFO pic.twitter.com/X5Pis3eeDC — Manchester United (@ManUtd) December 7, 2024 United fall again Despite scoring a second goal through Bruno Fernandes 30 minutes before time, the comeback didn’t work as United failed to score another goal, with their substitutes proving ineffective. This leaves United in 13th place in the table, with a mountain to climb if they intend to play in Europe next season. Before the Arsenal game, Amorim had warned that a storm was coming and as it seems, it’s already here. United’s next Premier League game is against Manchester City away at Etihad after a Europen tie on Thursday at FC Viktoria Plzeň. The ties going into the festive period don’t seem as easy as United would have liked, and they’ll have to get a good team first to try and get results even before focusing on their ‘average’ squad. Amorim mentioned that United is a massive club but not a massive team. Well, after those two losses, it seems his words are not in any way exaggerated.

Pep Guardiola Rattled by Liverpool as Crisis Continues, Reds Go Nine Clear

Pep Guardiola’s poor run at Manchester City this season has now gone beyond repair, and as he puts it, the Premier League defence might be over. A 2-0 defeat at Anfield saw his side extend their losing streak in the Premier League to 4 games and six games overall, their worst run in decades. After going two up, Liverpool fans could be heard excitedly singing ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ while taunting a bleak Pep. The manager, known for his fiery vibe on the touchline, played it cool at once before coming out with six fingers held up as he gave it back to the Liverpool faithful. This symbolised the six Premier League titles he had won with City, something Liverpool have only achieved once under Jurgen Klopp. The Champions are now left in the fifth spot, and they could be fighting for the top four now that even their manager believes it will be difficult to catch up.   Liverpool go 11 clear of City The Reds seem to be maintaining their great form by winning games, with Mo Salah showing why he deserves that new contract. Despite Arsenal beating West Ham 5 goals to 2 away from home, Liverpool’s biggest win so far of the season helped them advance to a place no one will be expecting to see them take lightly. With experienced players such as Van Dijk, Salah, Trent Alexander Arnold and Alexis Mac Allister, they are surely set to perform despite a few injuries in defence.
