Beatrice Jelagat Cherop Banned for Two Years Over Doping Violation

Kenyan athlete Beatrice Jelagat Cherop has been banned for two years.

This was after she tested positive for banned substance Triamcinolone acetonide which was announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

After the sample was collected in-competition during the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon on October 6th, 2024, it was subsequently tested by a WADA-accredited lab in Doha, Qatar which revealed the presence of the prohibited glucocorticoid.

Cherop on the other hand admitted to the anti-doping rule violations and accepted the consequences as outlined on the Notice of Allegation.

As a result, the athlete’s results from October 6th, 2024, onwards were disqualified.

This included forfeiture of any titles, medals and appearance fees.

I accept the consequences as stipulated and will comply fully with the decision.

Cherop wrote to AIU admitting to going against the rules.

The seasoned marathoner waived her right to a hearing before the Disciplinary Tribunal.

However, the decision can be appealed by the World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) or the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) to the court of Arbitration for sport.

The suspension was effective from November 27th, 2024, and will run until November 26th, 2026.
