Kenya Rolls Out New Permit Categories for Foreign Nationals

The government has introduced amendments to Kenyan Citizenship and Immigration Act. This will bring changes to various permit classes and create more opportunities for foreign nationals to work and live in Kenya. Those eligible for the new Permit (P) will pay a lower fee but to be charged in the United States of America dollars. These workers are usually paid in foreign currency, and it is an opportunity for the government to earn foreign currency from them.  The CS added. The amendment also revised the financial requirements for the Digital Nomad Visa (Class N) reducing the minimum annual income for applicants from USD 55,000 and USD 24,000. The amendment introduced class Q designed for professionals working with religious or charitable organizations. To ease financial burden on missionaries, annual fees has been lowered from Ksh. 50,000 to Ksh. 20,000.   In a bold step to position Nairobi as Africa’s multilateral hub, the government has introduced new work permits under the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration (Amendment) Regulations, 2024, announced via gazette notice on Monday. A young soul has departed, promising in servanthood and a bright soul.” The Bishop, through his post, continued to wonder why the young man travelled all the way from Mombasa to Kirinyaga to take his life. “When I received a call from your wife, I thought you were somewhere praying or maybe visiting a friend only to find that you had taken your life some days ago. Your lifeless body was lying on your father’s farm in Sagana. Why come all the way from Mombasa, just to end your young life? How I wish you had spoken it out to someone. One day, depression will also be depressed.” Pastor Mwangi served faithfully at JCM Church in Mtwapa, Mombasa.

Government approves extension of the government-to-government Fuel Deal

The government has recently approved the extension of the government-to-government petroleum sourcing arrangement with Saudi Arabia. The approval came following a Cabinet resolution after a meeting held on December 17 at State House Nairobi chaired by President Ruto. ”The Cabinet has approved the extension of the Government-to-Government (G-to-G) arrangement for the import of refined petroleum products.”  Cabinet noted that extending the deal was necessary because it has helped ease the pressure on the Kenyan Shilling. The Cabinet moreover revealed that the government-to-government deal has helped stabilise fuel prices in Kenya. ”This arrangement has eased the monthly demand for US dollars for petroleum imports, stabilising the shilling-dollar exchange rate at Ksh129 from a high of Ksh166 and reducing pump prices from Ksh217 per litre of petrol to Ksh177.”  This means that Kenya will continue to access the supply of refined petroleum by allowing payments in Kenya Shillings, previously estimated at $500 million a month. The Cabinet however did not give a clear timeline for when the deal extension will expire.
