Judiciary Raises Alarm Over Surge in Abductions Across The Country

The judiciary has deplored the recent occurrences of abductions of Kenyans involved on criticizing the Head of the Republic and his administration.

The criticism by courageous Kenyan personnels happened on social media platforms.

CJ Martha Koome also raised her concern regarding the matter stating that the judiciary noted with deep concern the numerous allegations regarding the abductions of protestors in Kenya.

The judiciary termed the act as direct assault on the rule of law, human rights and constitutionalism according to Article 10 of the Constitution.

The abductions which began in June 2024 after Genz’s during the signing in of the 2024 Finance Bill left many families solely while other disappeared without a trace.

With the number of rising cases, the judiciary called upon all State agencies within the Justice sector to uphold the constitutional duties and ensure that their actions are compliant with both the Constitution and the Law.

The Judiciary also urged all agencies in the Justice sector to process any criminal actions lawfully and investigate and address the allegations regarding abductions related to the ongoing protest with utmost urgency.

Hon CS. Martha Koome assured the nation that the courts are prepared to operate beyond standard working hours if the abducted persons are presented before court and also consider any petition for habeas corpus.
