Catherine Wanjeri Kariuki, Mediamax journalist has been awarded the 2024 Freedom Warrior Award.
She was shot in the thighs during the protest in July 2o24 which was led by a generation of young people who were protesting during the against the 2024 Finance Bill.
The journalist was shot while standing on the road in Nakuru CBD.

Wanjeri sustained injuries and was rushed to Valley Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) awarded the courageous journalist for her resilience, courage and unwavering commitment to press freedom.
I am honored and grateful for the recognition by KEG, especially after going through a life-altering and scary experience.
The journalist said.
This award gives me resilience and reminds me that I am not on my own in the fight for freedom of the press in this country.
The journalist added.
During her speech, the journalist also pointed out that no government or private institution has adequately addressed her case.
However, she expressed her optimism that she will receive support for press freedom because her justice will benefit all journalists.
