Kakamega Airport in Ruin Despite Ruto’s Ksh 174M Injection

Kakamega airport has fallen into despondent two years after President William Ruto had authorized renovations costing Ksh. 174 million.

This made the residents of Kakamega to want Kenya Airstrip Authorities (KAA) to provide a solution to a hundred of businesses that relied on flight operations and of the airstrip.

This came week after Skyward express announced suspension of flights due to the worse condition of the runway.

Skyward express had pointed out that the runway did not meet their safety standards which not only affected the passengers but also the business operators as well.

The renovations were made back in 2022.

President William Ruto said during a development tour in Western region that there were plans to expand the Kakamega Airstrip runway to accommodate larger aircraft flying in and out of the area.

KAA Corporate Communications Manager Angela Mite replied by saying that they acknowledged the state of the runway and stated that the repairs costed Ksh. 7 million and would commence on Thursday 10th October.

They said they would have engineers conduct an audit of works to determine whether they met required standards.

They added that a contactor would be on site from 10th October to conduct remedial repairs of the runway.
