Senator Karen Nyamu Addresses the Rent Arrears Controversy

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has set the record straight in matters related to her financial status after a video went viral on social media claiming that auctioneers were planning to raid her residence over rent arrears amounting to Ksh1.25 million. Speaking on K24 TV on Tuesday morning, the Senator dismissed the claims, maintaining that she was doing fine. She moreover disclosed that some individuals are only using tactics to try and pressure her into actions. “There are people who think they can sponsor media, use rogue means to arm-twist you and intimidate you, and go to the whims to make commitments that they know very well are not right,” she noted. According to Karen Nyamu, she is not one to be intimidated, maintaining that the correct procedures must be followed.  She concluded the discussion noting that she is not willing to address her issues in public. “And I am here to teach them it doesn’t work with everyone. The right way has to be followed and I do not want to address my issues in public,” she stated. This came as concerned supporters came together to fundraise for her to settle the arrears. “They should not be concerned. Yesterday I got people wanting to raise money for me. They think am broke, I am not broke. I actually got some contributions on my phone and I am thankful to Kenyans but I am fine, I do not need donations now.” she added.

Ruto and Sakaja’s 5 Million Donation Rejected

The Catholic Church has rejected President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s Ksh 5.8 million donations to the Catholic church in Soweto.  The new turn of events comes as the fallout from the Catholic Bishop’s strong criticism of President Ruto last week continues to rattle feathers. The President had donated Ksh 600,000 to Soweto Catholic church in Nairobi on Sunday for choir members and Ksh2 million that would be used to construct the father’s house. The Head of State had also promised to donate an additional Ksh3 million that would be channeled to the church’s account to purchase a church bus.  During the same service also, Governor Sakaja had  donated Ksh 200,000 to the same church. Bishop Anyolo noted that the donations made by the two senior government officials contravened the Public Fundraising Appeals Bill 2024 which states that any person who solicits or receives money or a benefit conducts a fundraising appeal regardless of whether the representation made was direct or indirect. According to the statement, the Catholic bishops have consistently maintained a firm stance on politicians donating money to churches, due to ethical concerns and the need to safeguard the church from being used for political purposes. The archbishop also accused a section of politicians of using church events such as fundraisers and gatherings as platforms for political self-promotion.  While declining the donations, Bishop Anyolo advised the Head of State to fulfil the demands made by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops including ending political wrangles, violations of human rights, the culture of lies, unfulfilled promises, and misplaced priorities. The decision to decline Ruto and Sakaja’s donations followed an uproar by a section of Kenyans who embarked on a campaign to apply pressure on the Soweto Catholic Church to return a Ksh 5.8 million gift.

Governors

Governors threaten to shut down counties in 30 days if the two houses of Parliament fail to agree on cash to be disbursed

Governors have threatened to shut down counties in 30 days if the two houses of Parliament fail to agree on cash to be disbursed to devolved units. They threatened to halt operations in all 47 counties after a council meeting on Monday, November 18, to discuss several bills including the Division of Revenue Amendment Bill 2024 and the County Allocation Bill. In their statement, the governors noted the delays in the release of equitable allocation five months into the new financial year while the National government continued to receive its shareable revenue. Furthermore, the governors also took aim at the National Assembly’s move to reduce the county’s equitable share costs by Ksh 20 billion a move which they claim will negatively affect ordinary Kenyans directly. In the month of September this year, the National Treasury disbursed Ksh 32.8 billion to counties after clearing a legal issue.  This was the first disbursement of the financial year which, according to the CoG, is a far cry from the figure that the 47 counties need to run efficiently.  The county chiefs issued a similar threat in 2023 with their primary concern at the time revolving around delays in the disbursement of counties’ equitable share by the National Treasury.

Religious Leaders

Religious leaders from Nyanza region Threaten to Mobilize Kenyans for Mass Action

Religious leaders from the Nyanza region have threatened to mobilise Kenyans for civil disobedience over alleged oppression and mismanagement by President William Ruto’s administration. According to them, the country is headed in the wrong direction and called for the President to institute a raft of measures to address problems facing Kenyans, failure to which they will mobilise their supporters in civil unrest. “The nation has witnessed the worst cases of oppression in recent times, some orchestrated through commercialization of political leadership with the opposition voices virtually eclipsed in Nyanza region after the creation of the broad-based government,” The eight demands issued by the leaders are aimed to improve the livelihoods of Kenyans and Most of all the demands were also raised by the Catholic bishops. This comes a few days after the KCCB issued a statement criticising Ruto’s government over allegations of rampant corruption, over-taxation, and unkept promises. However after the KCCB statement the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) bishops called out their Catholic counterparts for publicly criticising the Kenya Kwanza Government on Thursday terming it as disrespectful. According to the ACK bishop, there were other means to articulate their grievances respectfully other than publicly attacking President Ruto. The Anglican Church, however, issued another statement on November 18, saying it fully supports the statement issued by Catholic bishops. Moreover the Atheists in Kenya on Monday also supported the Catholic church in calling out the government. They stated that the culture of lies was slowly replacing integrity.

Lilian

Lilian Ng’ang’a’s lessons on walking away from unworthy relationships

Lillian Ng’ang’a has recently taken to her social media to share her thought-provoking message about letting go of people who no longer belong in one’s life.  She started by urging people to accept when certain relationships have run their course. “People not ordained to be in your life will not stay, no matter how much you try. When their season in your life is over, there will be no more grace. Let them walk; be at peace,” she wrote. Lillian further shared a sermon by the renowned preacher Joel Osteen, which delves into the importance of recognising when a relationship has ended. “We all have people who come into our lives and stay forever—our spouses, children, and cherished friends. But not every relationship is meant to last. There are seasons, and sometimes even good seasons come to an end,” Osteen The sermon continues to emphasise the importance of letting go when a person’s role in your life has concluded.   “We try to hold on to things that God has finished with. If someone doesn’t treat you with honour, it’s a sign their season is over. Let them walk away and move on with your life.” Previously, Lillian shared another post on her Insta Stories insinuating all was not well. She pampered her son with love, describing him as a caring little gentleman.  “Utheri found my steaming my face, thought I was burning because of the steam and quickly switched off the socket. I don’t need anyone else to protect me. I am covered,” she wrote.  The current  post comes weeks after rumours began swirling about possible trouble in her marriage with rapper Juliani. Juliani and Lillian Ng’ang’a started dating in September 2021, got married in February 2022, and they have one kid together.
