Sakaja’s Speech Interrupted by A Distressed Woman

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja was in an uncomfortable situation after his speech was cut short by a woman in distress. Sakaja attended a church service alongside President Ruto and other leaders at Soweto Catholic Church in Nairobi. As he was talking about the link between the capital city of Nairobi and the national government, Sakaja had his speech cut short by a wailing woman in the distance. The governor tried to control the situation by calling forth the woman in question, while promising to address her concerns. “It is okay. We will address her concerns. When guests come, residents are relieved. The woman will also get healed. Mummy relax I will take your written plea and help her. Your Excellency, a lot is going on in Kenya,” Governor Sakaja  The whole incident played out in the presence of Ruto who was yet to make his speech. This is not the first time the governor has openly had to address a deal with a distressed Nairobi resident.  In August, Sakaja had to be evacuated from Toi market after residents attempted to pelt his convoy with stones. At the time, Sakaja was visiting the market in the wake of a fire inferno which was believed to have been caused by an electric fault.

ACK

A section of ACK Clergy in Kilifi Call Out Catholic Bishops Over Government Criticism

A section of clergy in Kilifi County has recently called out their Catholic counterparts for publicly criticising ruto’s government. The ACK Bishop Reuben Katite stated that it was disrespectful of the bishops to bring up the matter publicly instead of sitting down with the President and talking it out. “Even religious leaders who know the Bible well stood and said they don’t think this government is chosen by God and they know very well that leadership comes from God. Instead of praying for the things that are going wrong to be corrected they choose to say that this government is not even chosen by God. How can that be?” Moreover the Political leaders at the occasion echoed these concerns including South Mugirango Member of Parliament Sylvanus Osoro who asked the religious leaders to remember to not just guide the congregants but also politicians as well He  encouraged them to correct when necessary. “Our leadership is worldly but yours comes from above and is for leading the soul. If we go wrong just correct us in a loving way.’’ This comes after the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops held a press conference where they criticised President Ruto’s administration over several issues plaguing the nation since he took over the top office. They also spoke of issues specifically affecting their sector including the hiking of the missionary work permit fees as well as the President’s refusal to take heed of their pleas. “We recall the pertinent issues we have raised recently with the government over taxation of Kenyans, the hiking of the missionary work permits, youth unemployment, and regulations of the education system including the Competency Bed Curriculum (CBC) and the education funding. This culture of lies, unkept promises, and misplaced priorities is unacceptable and needs to be dealt with. We believe that genuine consultations of all concerned stakeholders is necessary beyond the casualty of public participation.”

Gachagua

Gachagu Tells Ruto and his allies to stop attacking church clerics

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has criticised President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza allies for their response to criticism from church clerics. Speaking during the celebrations of 100 years of mission work at the Presbyterian Church of East Africa Kerarapon Church inKajiado County, the former Deputy President cautioned UDA leaders against coming for church leaders, referencing the trend to that he witnessed during late former President Daniel Arap Moi’s regime. “That culture of being arrogant and abusive to religious leaders was there in the 1990s during Moi’s regime. I can see the same pattern and we all know what the consequences were. Let’s be humble. Let’s allow our spiritual leaders to chastise us in love. To correct us when we are wrong. Let us accord respect to our church leaders.” Gachagua stated. Gachagua furthermore appeared to take a subtle jab at President William Ruto, by issuing a warning to leaders who he claimed thought had too much power. “You think you have too much power because you are in government. Be very careful so history does not repeat itself,” Gachagua Few days ago a Catholic bishops’ lobby stole headlines with a critical statement calling out President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza regime.

The socialite posted a number of messages on her Instagram account accexpressing her gratitude to Babu Owino, noting that he was the first person to take her off the streets and show her how to make money. She moreover recounted how she was living in extreme poverty until she met Babu Owino, who took her under his wing and taught her how to pursue wealth and success. “I was struggling, completely unaware of where my next rent payment would come from. I don’t know how or who introduced me to Babu Owino back then. I was living in a single room in Kileleshwa, along Kandara Road. One day, Babu calls me, picks me up in a Benz! Yes, the man had a Benz back then. I guess he could see I was really trying! He asked me, ‘Are you tired of living hand-to-mouth?’ But was I even living? We drove around Arboretum, and he showed me how to make money! The rest is history. But he opened my eyes to poverty.” Huddah further disclosed that  her long-standing friendship with Babu Owino ended a few years ago. Raila

Raila Odinga Refuses to comment on the recent criticism of President William Ruto by Catholic Bishops

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has declined to comment on the recent criticism of President William Ruto by Catholic Bishops, saying he will issue a comprehensive statement later. While addressing the press, Odinga steered clear of the matter and focused on shareable revenue, accusing legislators of frustrating devolution.  Responding to a journalist who asked about the criticism of president ruto by the Catholic Bishops, Odinga noted that he would comment on the matter in a different forum. “I will do another statement generally, where you can ask general questions. Today is about this issue of revenue care.’’ Talking about the revenue shares, Odinga noted that the division of revenue has created a standoff pitting the National Assembly and the senate against each other. According to Odinga, this impasse is a power grab and an assault on the constitution that Members of the National Assembly want to execute and amounts to a cruel betrayal of the people and an overhaul of our structure of governance. Odinga also highlighted that the execution and implementation of programs has never been and can never be the job of MPs without creating a serious accountability crisis in our governance system to the detriment of us all.  “The constitution assigns three roles to members of parliament; representation, legislation and oversight. Execution and implementation of programs has never been and can never be the job of MPs without creating a serious accountability crisis in our governance system to the detriment of us all. The constitution further creates two levels of government; the National Government and 47 county governments with a proviso that counties get at least 15 per cent of the National Government Revenue. The National Assembly must get it clear that revenue allocation to counties can only go up, not down, unless the intention is to kill devolution.’’ The ODM leader furthermore urged MPs to be enablers of devolution and refuse to be in partnership with those determined to frustrate and kill devolution. “I urge our MPs to be enablers of devolution and refuse to be in partnership with those determined to frustrate and kill devolution.’’ His press conference came a few hours after president ruto responded to  bishops who  pointed fingers at Ruto’s administration, asking him to stop the ‘culture of lies’. The clergy further slammed the Kenya Kwanza administration for unexplained killings, abductions, and widespread corruption.

I have this social media addiction that I’ve been trying to beat. My screen time is crazy, I scroll mindlessly, my attention span is horrible… it even takes away from my personal time that I could have used to do other things—more meaningful things. Even my time with God, I find myself sacrificing that so I can come online and scroll mindlessly.’’ According to Sharon she has however adopted a helpful habit from a friend to reduce her screen time in the mornings, but she’s still struggling with the issue and knows she can do better. “I’ve really been trying to beat it, and I saw Yvonne Kanyi talk about how she doesn’t come on social media until 12 p.m. to avoid spending her morning hours online. In response to a statement issued by the Catholic Bishops on November 14, with respect to recent abductions, IG Kanja has finally responded. The IG started his statement by disclosing that during the anti-government demonstrations, the country suffered massive losses. According to him, the losses ranged from death to destruction of property and livelihoods. He noted that NPS recorded 495 injuries to police officers, 347 injuries to civilians, and 42 civilian fatalities. “Following the public demonstrations that were witnessed in the country from june 18 to july 2024 against the proposed finance bill 2024, our country suffered massive losses ranging from death to destruction of property and livelihoods.NPS recorded 495 injuries to police officers, 347 injuries to civilians, 42 civilian fatalities and 69 cases of serious damage to government vehicles.” Talking on the matters related to femicide, Kanja noted that the police service had recorded 97 femicide deaths in the past three months.  According to the police boss, in most of the cases reported, the police service had already completed investigations, identified those involved in the murder of young girls and women, and arraigned them before the court. IG Kanja’s clarification comes a few hours after the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops criticised President William Ruto’s administration over allegations of rampant corruption, extrajudicial killings, over-taxation, and unkept promises. The bishops had stated that they were shocked by the government’s failure to resolve the recurrent cases of abductions, forced disappearances, and extra-judicial killings. They maintained that the decision by the government to remain silent on cases of abductions and murder particularly of young girls and women resulted in great consternation, anger, and disgust among Kenyans. “Many families are grappling with the loss of their children who were brutally killed and went missing following what is referred to as the Gen Z demonstrations in June 2024. Many of them had raised concerns about rampant corruption, who is behind these abductions?”

Anti-Femicide

Nationwide Anti-Femicide March Scheduled for December 10th this year

The ant- femicide march has been  planned for December 10 to demand an end to these killings as many  Kenyan women continue calling for urgent action against femicide. According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, femicide is defined as the deliberate killing of women and girls due to gender-based reasons, including beliefs that prioritize male dominance, the enforcement of traditional gender roles, or punishment for perceived unacceptable behavior.  The European Institute for Gender Equality also describes femicide as the most extreme form of gender-based violence, rooted in societal power imbalances. In late October, few Kenyan human rights organizations issued a statement urging President Ruto to declare femicide a national crisis.  They called for a coordinated government response, noting a disturbing increase in brutal murders targeting women and girls. According to a DCI report, 94 women and girls were killed between 2021 and 2024, with 65 suspects charged in connection to these crimes. However, President Ruto has called on security agencies to intensify efforts to combat femicide.  “I know we’ve recently witnessed tragic incidents of our girls, mothers, and women being murdered in cold blood. The DCI and other investigative authorities must act decisively against these criminals.” He further urged society to be vigilant against individuals who prey on women and girls.
