MP Sudi Questions CS Justin Muturi After The Abductions Expose

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has hit out at Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi after an expose that unearthed the government official behind abductions in the country. In a recent statement, Sudi lashed out at CS Muturi, accusing him of clinging to political relevance and questioning the timing of his decision to expose the facts surrounding enforced disappearances in Kenya. “This desperate move, made now that your political career has waned, is a clear blackmail attempt. The timing is highly suspicious, revealing a cowardly man clutching at straws for political expediency,” he noted. MP Sudi moreover questioned the motive behind the abduction of Muturi’s son at the height of the June-August Gen Z-led protests claiming that they were ‘agemates’. “In regards to your son’s woes, who is my age mate, kwani alishikwa bure??” Sudi quipped. Sudi’s statement comes after the CS claimed that the National Intelligence Service (NIS), under the leadership of Director General Noordin Haji, was behind the abductions of Kenyans. Muturi  laid these facts bare while recording a statement at the Kilimani Police Station on Tuesday, January 14. The CS had earlier hit out at the government over his son’s abduction stating that minimum effort was made in regards to the discovery of his son’s whereabouts. In his explosive 3-page statement, Muturi revealed that it took a personal meeting with President William Ruto to finally ascertain the whereabouts of his son, Leslie Muturi.  This followed a strenuous operation led by Muturi, which included reaching out to former Inspector General Japhet Koome, former Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, Interior PS Raymond Omollo, and Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) director Kiprotich Mohamed, all of which proved futile. According to the CS, he openly speculated to Ruto that the NIS was holding his son, though the President was initially apprehensive. Muturi disclosed that Ruto confronted Noordin Haji on whether the NIS was involved in Leslie’s abduction.

Kabogo Discloses How He Will Deal With Those Sharing Coffin Photos If Approved as CS

Information Cabinet Secretary nominee William Kabogo, on January 14, pledged to engage more actively with Gen Z to address the recent trend of circulating images of leaders in coffins on social media. During his vetting at the National Assembly Mini Chambers, Kabogo was asked about the measures he would implement to address the misuse of social media by the younger generation.  In his response, he emphasized that engaging the youth on the ethical use of the internet would help reverse the current situation. “We should be thinking about engaging the younger generations, the Gen Zs, the millennials to have ethical use of the internet space. Today they will be Gen Zs but in a couple of years, they will be parents. The engagement should be such that if you put Kabogo in a coffin as is the case now, at one time they will be fathers like me. How will they feel if their father is put in a coffin? Genuine engagement is needed with the parties involved in doing these things,” Kabogo noted. According to him, there is a need for stronger enforcement and a thorough review of the legislation to better tackle the problem. “The laws are there. For example, we have the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act. But we need to improve the enforcement of that law as well as its regular review,” he stated. The nominee further noted that it was essential to balance the freedom of expression with regulation to ensure that the rights of other Kenyans would not be infringed upon. “We should also be cognizant of the fact that there is freedom of expression in Kenya. We have to strike a balance such that the freedom of one does not infringe upon the freedom of another,” Kabogo noted.

CJ Koome Responds to Havi’s Call for Her Resignation

Chief Justice Martha Koome has finally responded to a section of Kenyans, led by former Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi, calling for her resignation. Koome dismissed the calls for her resignation, stating that she had yet to receive any valid reason compelling her to step down. According to CJ Koome, she would only step down once her tenure in office comes to an end. “You asked whether I would resign; I will also ask you, why would I resign? I have a tenure; I was appointed to serve for a tenure, and you have not given me the reason why you would want me to resign,” said Koome. She moreover noted that she had yet to receive the petition filed by Havi, which called for the resignation of all seven Supreme Court judges. CJ Koome vowed to continue addressing corruption within the judiciary, adding that she would not be deterred by negative criticism. “Unfortunately, we have not received the petition. It is probably being processed. We were there on the seventh, and we did not see it. We need to tell Kenyans that you cannot pay for government services, you cannot pay for justice, and you cannot pay for judicial services because we are paid by the taxpayers’ money,” she noted. Her comments came after Havi filed a petition with the Judicial Service Commission calling for the dismissal of all seven Supreme Court judges on grounds of gross misconduct and misbehaviour. Havi’s petition criticised Koome for what it described as a lack of leadership and proper direction in her role at the helm of the judiciary, further contrasting her with former Chief Justice Evans Gicheru.

Bishop Anthony Muheria questions politicians who settle political scores at funeral ceremonies

Nyeri Catholic Archbishop Anthony Muheria has recently sent a stern warning to all the politicians who are in the habit of settling political scores at funeral ceremonies. The Bishop called out President Ruto’s allies for their increasing notoriety of bringing politics into funerals. According to the bishop, the ruling elite lacks the  fundamental respect for sacred activities like burial ceremonies and asked the leaders to look deep within themselves for decency. “Even in funerals, it seems that we are not even given respect to our parents and ancestors. We’ve lost all kinds of decorum and respect. Must we dance on the coffins of our loved ones to be popular?” he posed, criticizing the political class. Bishop Muheria went on to weigh on the issue of abductions which has rocked the country in recent weeks urging for tolerance among those in power. “It’s enough. We can’t be commenting about abductions. It doesn’t matter who is guilty of whatever crime we say. That person has a soul. That person has a right. His life is worth more than those few remarks he makes,” he stated. Ruto’s political allies in turn responded to the cleric’s scathing criticism terming the utterances as an interference in state affairs cautioning him to focus on his core business, which is spiritual nourishment. “Don’t come and lecture us as if you are god. All of us are human, so let us respect each other,” Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi countered. Muheria was reacting to the recent heated exchange of words witnessed at the burial of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula’s mother in Western Kenya where the majority leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, and Transzoia Governor George Natembeya exchanged words.
