University Students Threaten to Protest Over Abductions and Salary Delays

University student leaders have warned the government about a new wave of protests they will organise across Kenyan universities over the increasing cases of abductions and salary delays among lecturers. Student leaders have accused the government for failing to act on the increasing instances of abductions targeting Kenyan youth. According to the leaders, the protests will begin on January 15, when universities re-open. ”Revolution is the voice of the unheard, revolution is the voice of the majority silenced and pressed. We are announcing that immediately the comrades of the universities resume, including the lecturers and staffers, we are going to stage demonstrations in the republic of Kenya.”  The leaders further noted that it is unfortunate that the government has done little to crack down on the instances of abductions, subjecting many families to untold suffering and pain. They moreover announced that they would seek to compel the government during their protests to pay all the pending salary arrears of university staff. The leaders concluded by urging all university students across the country to come out in their numbers and paralyse key business activities, in a bid to send their message to the concerned authorities.

Congolese Bishop CB Motondo: “Calling the president funny names undermines God’s authority.”

Renowned Congolese preacher Charles Motondo has recently called on Kenyans to stop mocking President William Ruto. According to the preacher such actions could invite divine consequences. The preacher moreover expressed concern over the use of derogatory nicknames like “Kasongo,” which he believes dishonor both the president and the divine authority that appointed him. “Calling the president funny names undermines God’s authority. The Bible cautions against cursing leaders chosen by God. Criticizing him is akin to criticizing God.” He went on to urge Kenyans to reflect on their actions, noting that corruption does exist not only in government but also in churches and society as a whole. He further called for respect toward leaders while encouraging accountability across all sectors.  The preacher did not forget to ask President Ruto to address the public’s frustrations with compassion and decisive leadership. “There’s no president who will be universally loved. Presidents come and go. We’ve had many before, and now we have President Ruto. But weren’t you the same people who criticized the previous president? No leader will go through their term without facing opposition.” He moreover reminded Kenyans that every president faces criticism, recalling how past leaders also dealt with opposition. “I pray that God grants the president wisdom to understand that when people cry out, it’s not out of hatred but frustration. He must do his best to address their challenges because God has entrusted him with this leadership.’’ Prophet Motondo is widely respected for his prophetic accuracy and humanitarian efforts, and has established churches worldwide. He also served as an advisor to the late Zambian President Rupiah Banda and worked with former President Kenneth Kaunda.  He is currently an advisor to both Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Democratic Republic of Congo’s President Felix Tshisekedi.
