Nelson Havi Calls For Removal Of CJ Marth Koome And Supreme Court Judges

Nelson Havi wants the removal of CJ Martha Koome and all supreme judges against allegations of misconduct and misbehavior. The former Law Society of Kenya Chairman (LSK) filed an affidavit dated 13th January 2025 seeking the removal of CJ Marth Koome and all Supreme Court judges. He cited on the gross and misconduct that were allegedly made by Honorable Lady Justice Martha Koome the judges and the magistrate vetting board in the removal of Honorable Mr. justice Riaga Omolo in 2012 stating that Honorable Martha Koome cannot see today when the freedom of expression is entrenched in the Constitution of Kenya. The Former LSK chair also argued that Chief Justice Martha Koome has failed to provide leadership and direction for the Supreme Court of Kenya and the entire Judiciary due to her failure to comprehend and grasp the enormous responsibilities of her office as the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya. The origin of the problem of Honorable Martha Karambu Koome. the Supreme Court of Kenya and the entire judiciary is all there in black and white. Three other cases amongst many, demonstrate gross misconduct and misbehavior by the seven judges of the Supreme Court of Kenya.  Nelson Havi stated. There is reasonable apprehension in the legal fraternity and the general public that the recent practice of the Supreme Court of Kenya entertaining and determining appeals from the Court of Appeal on civil and commercial matters where colossal amounts of money is involved but… pic.twitter.com/BHgCLnwUnw — Nelson Havi (@NelsonHavi) January 13, 2025 I don’t understand what would motivate judges of the Supreme Court if not corruption to relegate themselves to the level of taxing officer and start determining the quantum if instruction fees. The former LSK chair cited an example.

UN Raises Concern After Foreigner Abducted in Nairobi

The United Nations Resident Coordinator to Kenya, Stephen Jackson has recently raised concerns over the abduction of Maria Sarungi Tsehai, a Tanzanian media personality and human rights defender who was reportedly abducted in Nairobi. Taking to his X account, Jackson noted that the abduction of the Tanzanian national was worrying. The abducted national is said to be a fierce critic of Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu, though the reasons for her abductions are not yet established.   It is alleged that Tsehai was picked up by three armed men at Chaka Place in Kilimani on Sunday at around 3:15 pm. Tsehai who was abducted is a media and communications expert and an ardent critic of President Samia Suluhu who does not shy away from exposing and calling out the Tanzanian government. With her huge following on social media specifically on X, Tsehai had exposed the Tanzania Government’s plans to import two airplanes.  One is a brand new one for the VIP in Tanzania and the other is for Air Tanzania as a passenger plane. Her abduction marks the second time a vocal East African activist has been kidnapped from an affluent neighborhood in Nairobi in barely three months after Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye was abducted.

The 29-year-old Lydia Tokesi had reportedly gone missing for more than one week with the last time spotted alive on January 4 this year.  Her mutilated body, which had serious signs of torture, was retrieved at Gataka Forest. Investigations into her disappearance and subsequent murder have officially started and a DNA test is expected to be carried out to ascertain the identity of the body. “The state of the body was so bad. You couldn’t really identify it. It was missing some parts. It was found in a thicket. We’re waiting for the DNA tests to know if that body is Lydia’s. After that, we’ll get to know what happened,” Daniel Shikoli, the brother to Tokesi, told the press. Reports indicate that Lydia was with her boyfriend on Saturday, January 4, whom she had been dating for over eight years. Moreover, Investigations revealed that Lydia stayed with the suspect until the said date when she was reported missing mysteriously. According to the family, Tokesi had taken a bank loan and purchased a motor vehicle for the suspected killer boyfriend who operated it as a taxi in Nairobi. The said vehicle was found abandoned near Lydia’s parents’ home with bloodstains raising questions over what might have transpired.  Sleuths have since launched a manhunt for the suspect who is still at large. As part of the investigations, detectives raided the suspect’s house in Ongata Rongai and recovered several exhibits, which they believe will be instrumental in unraveling the details of the murder.

Governor Sakaja Announces Free Nairobi CBD Parking on Saturdays

Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has disclosed that everyone will be able to park vehicles within the Nairobi Central Business District on Saturdays without fear of being charged any fees. “Yes, parking is now free on Saturdays. You can come to town, park your car, and not pay anything. Previously, only Sundays were free, but now we’ve expanded this to Saturdays as well,”  Sakaja said in a statement. The move according to Sakanja was part of his county government’s effort to ease the financial burden on Kenyans while also maximising revenue collection during business days. “This ensures we maximise revenue collection on weekdays while allowing Nairobians to enjoy free parking over the weekend.” Following this new directive, motorists will not be required to pay parking fees in the Nairobi CBD all weekend. In 2024, City Hall temporarily issued a waiver to private motorists on paying parking fees in the Nairobi CBD, in line with the Tax Waivers Administration Act. A gazette notice signed by CEC Charles Kerich revealed that the waiver was in line with the governor’s recommendation and concurrence. Previously, motorists could spend up to KSh1600 in parking fees alone during the week, but that figure could drop significantly following the waiver. Last week, the governor also issued a notice to hawkers within the CBD, detailing specific lanes and roads where hawking was disallowed.

I have never gone to any school, even tuition,” he noted. According to the MCA, he expected to score an E, so it was necessary to have the celebratory city. His results shared with the media consist of 4 Es in Mathematics, Geography, Chemistry, and English and two D minus in Kiswahili and Christian Religious Education. Moreover, his best-performing subject was Biology in which he scored a surprising C minus. “In Biochemistry, I scored C minus and nobody here received C minus because studies are very difficult. When I saw that Kiswahili was not bad, I told myself I would get an E Plus but many told me that that was not an available grade but I put in more effort and was so proud of scoring D minus.” In 2020 Leting sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and scored 150 marks out of 500. His results inspired him to take his education further, leading to the momentous results that he now believes have given him job security.

Hawkers Ready To Protest After Sakaja Enforces CBD Restrictions

Hawkers in Nairobi have declared protests against CBD’s ban that was lifted by Governor Johnson Sakaja. Gachagua had issued a warning against the hawkers on January 6th, 2025, not to hawk within Nairobi CBD and further directed them to sell in the backstreets of the town and lanes within the CBD. The new directive also required the hawkers to hawk only from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm from Monday to Friday. With the new regulations, the hawkers’ association vows to march to city hall to demonstrate against the new regulations, stipulating the right to conduct businesses without restrictions. They have argued that they have families and cannot be expected to leave when they have responsibilities. However, the business community is also against arguing that the overcrowding of hawkers discourages their customers from entering CBD. While stating their argument, they also emphasized that they are not against the hawkers but rather wants their designated business spaces adding that they pay taxes to operate regularly.
