In a recent letter to the Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Foreign Relations on January 9, the former CS declined her nomination for the High Commissioner job in Ghana, attributing it to personal reasons. “Pursuant to Section 16 of the Public Appointment, Parliamentary Approval Act 3 of 2011, I wish to inform you that I will not appear before the said committee a the time and venue specified for the approval hearing,” Ndung’u wrote.  Last year, Ndung’u was displaced as ICT CS after serving for only three months with William Kabogo named as her replacement. Identical Twins Score Same KCSE Grade

Will Emmanuel Isanda and Wayne John Isanda, identical twins, have once again demonstrated their academic prowess by earning identical A grades in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. The twins, Alliance Boys High School alumni, earned an A grade with 82 points. Will and Wayne have consistently defied the odds since the COVID-19 pandemic, when they excelled in their KCPE exams at Imperial Primary School in Kisii, scoring 415 and 412 marks, respectively.  At the start of their secondary education, the boys faced a major setback after losing their mother to rheumatoid arthritis. However, this tragedy did not deter them from pursuing their dreams. ” We were just as successful in the KCPE when the tragedy of losing our mother hit us. But we had to be strong and excel for her. We made a mantra for ourselves that every time we experience disaster, we recover our master,” Will said. Moreover, Will and Wayne are not strangers to success, they have always been scoring excellent and identical results since form one.  Everyone including their teachers always wondered how the two were able to score the same grades. “We don’t know how, there are times the results just tie, like this time around, both of us got an A of 82 points. It is shocking, and teachers always ask us how is this possible, and we tell them it’s just a twin thing,” Wayne noted. According to one of their family members, their success does not come as a shock since they are  hard workers who totally deserve the grades they got. Talking of how they succeed, the boys make sure they keep each other in check, including waking each other up and helping each other revise. About the future plans, the boys want to pursue neurology and cardiology respectively as they seek to mark their spot in the world.

UK Demands Immediate Investigations After Release of The 5 Abductees

The United Kingdom has recently urged President William Ruto’s administration to conduct swift and transparent investigations into the recent disappearances of youthful Kenyans. In a statement on Thursday, British High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan noted that Kenya’s decision to address these abductions would demonstrate the country’s commitment to upholding fundamental rights. According to him, it would also boost the country’s position on the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) which Kenya leads. “We welcome the release of 5 Kenyans on 6 January, following their disappearance. Swift and transparent investigations into reported abductions will demonstrate Kenya’s commitment to fundamental rights,” Neil Wigan commented. The message comes barely three days after about five Kenyans who were reportedly abducted in December last year were found alive in different locations. Moreover, Wigan’s call for investigations comes just a day after the High Court in Nairobi summoned the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Mohamed Amin to appear before it on January 27.

Kenya’s High Court Rules Attempted Suicide Is No Longer A Crime

The Nairobi High Court has declared attempted suicide in Kenya no longer a crime. The ruling was stated by Judge Lawrence Mugambi on 9th Thursday 2024 who declared that section 226 of the Penal code violates fundamental human rights enshrined in the Constitution. Initially, there had been a petition dated 3rd February 2022 which was amended on 22nd February 2022. According to initial section 226 of the Penal code, anybody found committing suicide was punished for two years imprisonment. The law was challenged in court by Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), Advocate Charity Muturi and Kenya Psychiatric Association who argued that criminalizing attempted suicide would further stigmatize mental illness and discourage those in need of seeking timely medical intervention. Section 226 of the Penal Code offends Article 27 of the Constitution by criminalizing a mental health issue, thereby endorsing discrimination on the basis of health, which is unconstitutional. It also dignifies and disgraces victims of suicide ideation in the eyes of the community for actions that are beyond their mental control, which is a violation of Article 28. Justice Lawrence Mugambi stated in his ruling. With the ruling, Justice Lawrence Mugambi declared attempted suicide as unconstitutional and ordered that no further punishments. Attempted suicide is not a crime anymore!
