According to Diamond, when he submitted the song to Warner, with whom he has a distribution deal, the label rejected it outright.

“Diamond claims that when he submitted the song to Warner, with whom he has a distribution deal, the label rejected it outright. When they rejected the song, I went home and listened to it again. I thought, Why don’t they understand this? This is a hit. So, I decided to release it myself.”

He moreover disclosed that Warner never provided a clear explanation for their decision, even after he presented the song at the Grammys. He attributed their response to outdated industry practices.

After Komasava became a global sensation, attracting the attention of international stars, Warner allegedly reconsidered but he declined to involve them.

“After the song blew up, they wanted it, but I told my manager I didn’t want them to have it because they initially rejected it. Now look—Chris Brown is dancing to it. Swae Lee loved it and wanted to collaborate, and even Jason Derulo approached me for the remix,” he added.
