Harambee Stars Coach Engin Firat Resigns, Amidst Growing Pressure

Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat has resigned.

His resignation came two weeks after failing to take Kenya to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco and after Hussein Mohammed was elected as the new President of the Football Kenya Federation.

The former head coach had failed to guide Harambee Stars to the 2025 Africa Cup of nations after finishing third in their qualification group behind Cameroon and Zimbabwe.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen had been voicing about the need for FKF to terminate Firat’s contract after he failed to qualify for AFCON.

Firat told Flashcore he had resigned following the comments from Murkomen.

I have terminated my contract after this CS (Murkomen) talked so much about me but let Football Kenya Federation (FKF) make the announcement.

Firat told Flashcore on Wednesday 11th December 2024.

After the resignation, Mohammed’s team will need to quickly appoint a head coach of Africa Nations Championship which Kenya is expected to co-host with Uganda.

The tournament will be held in February next year.
