Gachagua Sends A Message to President Ruto After Nyandarua Chaos

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has recently sent a message to President William Ruto few hours after an attack on him during an event in Nyandarua. Through a statement, Gachagua warned Ruto against actions that undermine the Constitution and cautioned him against disregarding the will of Kenyans. “To President Ruto, no amount of intimidation or violence will stop the Kenyan people from criticising you, demanding for good governance and accountability, or asking you to respect democracy and the rule of law,” Gachagua noted. His message to the president came a few hours after an alleged attack during a thanksgiving prayer service at Shamata Ward MCA Gitau Njamba in Nyandarua that led to police using tear gas and firing gunshots. He was forced to scamper for safety with his envoy when the commotion started. The event took a wrong turn when Nyandarua Senator John Methu addressed the crowd before a fracas disrupted his speech and a teargas canister was thrown at the dais while he was speaking.  This caused a commotion, with the crowd dispersing in different directions. Fortunately, the area residents took the initiative to escort the alleged attackers out of the event and Gachagua expressed his gratitude.

Bobi Wine Comments on the recent wave of abductions in Kenya

Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine has weighed in on the recent wave of abductions in Kenya. According to Bobi Wine, Kenya is quickly moving from being the East African region’s beacon of hope, adding that the country is also becoming worse for government critics. “Very sad to see how quickly Kenya is descending from being regarded as a beacon of hope for our troubled East African region to now being known for abductions of young citizens critical to the government of the day.” The politician continued to urge Kenyans to uphold the rule of law and resist any attempt to return the nation back to the dark days “sympathise with you, Wandungu, the great people of Kenya. Like I warned you previously, you must resist.” He moreover encouraged Kenyans to make use of constitutional and legal means to defend the Constitution. “Therefore, to you Kenyan friends, you must defend your Constitution before it is too weak to defend you. If you do not uproot repression when it is a seedling, it becomes much harder when it takes root, grows into a tree, and spreads its branches everywhere.” His message to Kenyans come at a time when the government is under scrutiny following the abduction of several Kenyans.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has finally broken his silence on the controversial wave of alleged abductions in the country. The former DP moreover faulted the National Intelligence Service for allegedly turning a blind eye to missing Kenyans as he referenced Douglas Kanja’s latest statement where the Inspector General of Police distanced security agencies’ involvement in abductions. “Inspector General of the national police service insists he is not aware of the abductions, which begs the question,’ how can the police still be in denial when there are witnesses, video evidence and countless grieving families coming forward?”  He further claimed that he took issue with the competency of the NIS when he was still in office but his concerns were allegedly taken to be acts of an insubordinate public servant. He concluded by calling on the President to take responsibility and address the alleged abductions. His comment comes as the whereabouts of Kibet Bull, Bernard Kavuli, Peter Muteti and Billy Mwangi remain unknown after their alleged abductions.

DCI Denies Omtatah’s claims on alleged abduction of Kibet Bull

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has denied any involvement in the alleged abduction of Gideon Kibet hours after claims made by Senator Okiya Omtatah Okoiti. In a statement, the DCI distanced itself from Omtatah’s claim that they used one of their signature white Subaru cars while picking up the cartoonist.  “The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) takes note of the statement made by Senator Okiya Omtatah Okoiti regarding the reported sighting of a white Subaru vehicle linked to the alleged abduction of Gideon Kibet. We wish to emphasise that these allegations are being taken with utmost seriousness,” read the statement. The DCI reiterated that all police operations are conducted within the law. “The Inspector General (IG) has clearly stated that all police operations are conducted within the confines of the Constitution and established legal frameworks.” The DCI moreover assured the public that no extrajudicial actions are tolerated within their ranks. Talking of the recent alleged abductions, the DCI confirmed that investigations are underway and urged individuals with credible information to come forward, stating. “We urge any individuals with credible information on these matters to come forward and cooperate with our independent investigations.” The DCI further cautioned public leaders against making speculative statements that could impede ongoing investigations. “We urge public leaders to refrain from making speculative statements that may hinder the progress of ongoing investigations.” Omtatah had recently accused the DCI of using a white Subaru Forester that was parked next to his office in the Taj Tower in the aftermath of Kibet’s abduction.  The senator claimed that the car arrived at the same time Kibet arrived in his office for a meeting, staying there for the entirety of the meeting and leaving just moments after Kibet left.   “I strongly believe that Mr. Kibet was tracked and abducted by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations because, as soon as he arrived, my security informed me that they were monitoring a white Subaru, which was mounted with suspected spy communication gadgets used to intercept phone conversations,” he claimed. The abduction of Kibet adds to the growing list of Kenyans who have recently been abducted over their posts online.  Bernard Kavuli, Peter Muteti and Billy Mwangi whereabouts are currently unknown after their alleged abductions.

Raila condemns Ruto’s administration over the Recent cases of abductions

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is among those who have continued to condemn President William Ruto’s administration over the surging cases of abductions in Kenya recently. Speaking during a Christmas church service in Siaya County, Odinga termed the alleged abductions as primitive and backward. Raila further called on the current regime to intervene and follow the rule of law in handling the negative online criticism. “The issue of abducting innocent people is a primitive thing and is something very strange, we can not live in a country where people disappear or get abducted for no other reason. Many parents have been crying that their children were abducted the other day by some people who are unformed and we have never seen those children up to now.’’ He went on to demand the immediate release of all abducted Kenyans, adding that such incidents were strange in such a democratic country. He also accused the government of taking the country back to the dreaded Moi era, questioning why abducted Kenyans were being taken to unknown places. “These days you are being taken to unknown places, we want these kinds of primitive things not to happen in this country, it is completely unacceptable,” Odinga stated.

CS Duale Criticises Gachagua After Remarks Against Ruto’s Administration

Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has recently criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his recent sentiments against President William Ruto’s administration. Taking to his X account, the CS slammed Gachagua for accusing the government of deliberately targeting the Mt Kenya region residents with illicit alcohol. Duale termed Gachagua’s sentiments as unfortunate, irresponsible, and reckless, further adding that the statements were aimed at inciting Kenyans. He moreover advised Gachagua to rise above ethnic politics, exercise patriotism and maintain the morality of a good leader, further warning the DP that history would judge him harshly. “Hon Gachagua, you were once the Deputy President, this statement is unfortunate, irresponsible, incitement, and reckless. History will judge you.History will judge you. Don’t lower the bar for good leadership, rise above ethnic chieftains. Be a Democrat.”  Duale’s comment comes days after the former DP accused President Ruto of instructing Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo to order the reopening of all alcohol stores including companies that manufacture the drinks. The former DP faulted the government for allegedly weakening his previous efforts in fighting against drug and substance abuse. “The Interior Security PS was instructed by the President to reopen all those alcohol factories, and they were urged to sell the alcohol exclusively in Mount Kenya. It is not sold in Rift Valley or anywhere else. Yesterday, three people died in Bahati. Since they forced me out of office, the President has ordered all the illicit alcohol that kills people to be brought here to destroy our young people,” the former DP noted. His allegations were later dismissed by PS Omollo who termed the former DP’s remarks as inflammatory and politically motivated. Moreover, Omollo noted that the government does not produce, distribute or retail any alcoholic drinks and the problem of substance misuse affects people from all walks of life, including parents and children. “We take great exception that such grave national matters can be trivialized by one individual, on a church podium nonetheless, without empathy for the families that may be struggling with this crisis,” PS Omollo said.
