Gachagua Alleges that Ruto is Using Illicit Alcohol to Reduce Mt Kenya Votes

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once accused President William Ruto, this time accusing him of facilitating alcoholism in the Mount Kenya region. Speaking during a church service in Naivasha, the former DP claimed that, despite having won the fight against alcohol and drug abuse in the region during his tenure as Deputy President, the President had undone his efforts. “The Interior Security PS was instructed by the President to reopen all those alcohol factories, and they were urged to sell the alcohol exclusively in Mount Kenya. It is not sold in Rift Valley or anywhere else. Yesterday, three people died in Bahati. Since they forced me out of office, the President has ordered all the illicit alcohol that kills people to be brought here to destroy our young people.” He went on to recall warning the President against reopening the companies when he was in office, but his pleas went unheard. He suggested that this move was a calculated effort by the President to reduce the voter population in the Mountain region. “Police and chiefs have been instructed to allow people to continue drinking the deadly alcohol, so the number of registered voters decreases. It is immoral; it is unacceptable to target a community for destruction and extinction through the sale of poison to them. It is entirely possible to end the war on alcoholism because I had already achieved it.” Gachagua further urged the President to visit the Mountain instead of waiting for tempers to calm, and to address the questions they had. Among the questions he wanted the President to answer was why he considered Kenyans ‘stupid’ for refusing to vaccinate their livestock. He also pointed out the criticism of the clergy by the President and reminded him that they had held his hand and prayed for him during the campaigns.

Teachers issue a Strike Notice ahead of school opening next Month

Teachers have recently threatened to go on strike in January should the government fail to disburse Ksh10 billion meant for their medical insurance cover. The Kenya National Union of Teachers Kiambu branch Secretary General Samuel Muiruri expressed frustrations over the government’s failure to renew the cover. According to him the medical insurance cover was previously renewed every November, however, that was not the case this year. Muiruri further disclosed that the government’s failure to renew the covers inconvenienced many teachers as some of them were being denied health services despite deductions of the same. While calling on the government’s intervention, the KNUT official stated that teachers would not resume schools next month unless the government heed their demand. “This is money that was deducted from teachers’ payslips and the cover was negotiated between the employer and the teachers union. Already we are paying the Social Health Authority cover, we pay for two health insurance schemes,” Muiruri stated. He also added that the issue was sensitive and should be dealt with as soon as possible. “This issue is very sensitive and must be taken very seriously, if the money is not remitted by January then the teachers will go to the streets,” he added. He further revealed that the notice about the forthcoming demonstrations to demand medical cover had already been communicated to all the KNUT branches across the country. The announcement comes even as parents and students continue to prepare for the school reopening which has been scheduled for January 6, 2025.

Kenya to open a consulate in Haiti next year

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has announced that Kenya will open a consulate in Haiti next year. Speaking during a press briefing, Mudavadi revealed that Kenya will open another consulate in Guangzhou, China, as well. Moreover Kenya will soon add a consulate to its embassy in Beijing, though the reasoning behind this decision has not been disclosed.  This move comes amid the fact that approximately 4,000 Kenyan students are currently enrolled in universities across China. This announcement follows the normalization of diplomatic ties between Kenya and Haiti, which occurred 15 months ago. In September 2023, Kenya and Haiti established diplomatic relations, with a commitment to posting ambassadors in both states. In a joint statement signed by ousted Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry and then Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, the two countries announced their eagerness to strengthen the ties of friendship for mutual benefit and in pursuit of common interests. The establishment of diplomatic relations came ahead of Kenya sending police officers to Haiti to help maintain peace in the troubled Caribbean nation.

Gospel Singer Ninah Discloses she upgraded hubby from ‘malenge promax’ to singer

Ninah, of the Gospel duo Wapendwa Muziki, has recently addressed the controversy surrounding her recent comments about her husband, Mesh. She sparked a heated debate when she referred to her husband as a ‘kafukuswi’,a term popularised by fellow content creator Andrew Kibe. In a video, Ninah was seen advising her husband to be more composed and confident, especially when they are in public.  She recalled a moment when the Wajesus family surprised them with a house makeover, and Mesh cried during the visit. Ninah, frustrated with his emotional outburst, used the term ‘kafukuswi’ to describe him, telling him to be strong and control his emotions. “I don’t like how you act as if you’re not composed…The other day, they surprised us with a house makeover, and you cried like a child. I want you to be strong—the way you talk, the way you walk. I don’t like you showing too many emotions.” In response to the backlash after the comment, Ninah took to social media and explained that her intention was never to disrespect her husband, but rather to help him grow. According to her, when she first met Mesh, he lacked confidence and needed guidance.  She further explained that she had ‘upgraded’ him, transforming him from someone with little self-assurance into the person he is today. “Ladies, groom your man. If you want him to become a billionaire, groom him into becoming a billionaire. You know, when I met my husband, he was a ‘malenge’ (pumpkin). In fact, a malenge promax. I loved him but I knew here I had to a groom job. I started to groom him, and right now, my husband is an amazing singer. I taught him how to sing.” She moreover praised Mesh for his progress, highlighting his talents as a singer, songwriter, and videographer and expressed pride in his growing abilities and his continued success in the entertainment industry. “Ladies, you are there with your man and truth be told, you do not like how he talks like he has no teeth. You better say it, so it leaves you, and tell the guy. You are there persevering. And then you start getting ideas, thinking about cheating.I don’t want to get to that point where I am going to start thinking of cheating or other things, so I am going to talk. The Bible says he who finds a wife finds a good thing, I am that good thing. I want my husband to say when I met Nina, my life changed.”

Martha Karua Accuses Raila Odinga for allegedly betraying her

NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua has taken a swipe at former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for allegedly betraying her following his controversial decision to side with President William Ruto’s administration. During an interview on NTV, the former Azimio principal accused Odinga of hijacking the Gen Z protests to advance his political agenda. Karua noted that Raila was expected to side with the youthful protesters but instead chose to support the government. “When we become opposition leaders, we owe a certain duty to Kenyans, whether or not, we are in the Gen Z moments, the Gen Zs who did the work and died for this country. As leaders, we must protect and stand with the people. So it’s not only the Gen Zs I also personally felt betrayed,” the NARC-Kenya party leader noted. According to Karua, some of the opposition leaders within the Azimio coalition had become the mouthpiece of Ruto’s government. Karua went on to hit out at Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed and Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho for siding with the government despite previously being in opposition. “That is why there is no way we can be in a coalition that no longer serves the purpose of the people. We need to defend the people, we need to call the Ruto regime to account and you cannot do that with one leg in and another one out,” Karua stated. She moreover advised Raila to consider formalising his agreement with President Ruto. “I call upon my friend and brother Raila Odinga to do the honourable thing, have a post-election coalition agreement with Ruto so that they are in government through a proper political marriage solemnised by the registrar of political parties,” Karua suggested.
