Ichung’wah to DCI: Enforce Law On Social Media Insults And Defamation

Parliament Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah has called on Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to tackle social media abuses with stronger enforcement.

This he said on Friday 27th December 2024.

The Member of Parliament requested that security officers should use guidelines of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act of 2018 to enforce law on those insulting leaders through social media.

Arrest them, make it public and take them before the courts of law so that it becomes a deterrent to those misusing computers, Al not only to insult but also to uncivilized things. 

He spoke.

He added that the DCI must make use of the laws that were created and enated in Parliament in 2018 and implement the law to end the shenanigans of people insulting each other with impunity and imagining nothing can happen to them.

To the youth, have respect. Even if you do not respect me as a leader then respect the families of those leaders. You might not like Speaker Wetangula but remember he has a parent.

This was due to the rising cases of abductions in Kenya which was alleged due to the insulting leaders such as putting a post on X showcasing the President in a coffin and allegdly termed as criticizing the government.

29 people were already reported missing and Kenyans seeking for answer while other demonstrating.

Their whereabouts is a shocking matter in Kenya which makes people to be afraid of their lives.
