Officers mostly from Kenya have been sent off to Haiti by Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS).

This was confirmed by the newly elected director of the Haitian National Police (PNH).
He said that Kenya would help the local security forces in their war against powerful gangs like Kokorat San Ras and Gran Grif.
The gangs in Haiti had become worse to an extent they were demanding 40, 000 per household for “protection” and disrupting transport routes as well.
Before the placement was made, a violent gang in Haiti had murdered 70 people in the town of Pont-Sonde.
This made thousands of people to flee for their lives with over 6, 270 people seeking shelter from relatives and camps.
Gran Grif gang leader claimed that his gang was responsible for the assault and said it was because the police and vigilant groups had targeted his gang members.

In the fight against the gangs, the Haitian National police had been a bit overpowered which made them to be in need of assistance.
The placement came five days after the incident had happened.
Exantus, the director of communications in Haiti said that the mission was to eliminate the gang members and restore peace.
He also said that the placement of MMS officers working with specialized units of the Haitan forces would play a pivotal role in achieving the objective.
There is hope that the Kenyan Police Service will be a step towards maintaining order.
