President Ruto Acknowledges Police Abuses During Protests

President William Ruto has conceded abuses by Kenya police during demonstrations.

This he said in his new year’s address to the nation.

Recently there have been protests against abductions that have sparked outrage in the country.

It cannot be denied that there have been instances of excessive and extrajudicial actions by members of the security services. 

President Ruto stated during the new year’s address.

That said, it is crucial to remember that every freedom has its limit, and that public safety and order must always supersede the desire for unchecked liberty. 

The Head of State added.

In another speech, the Head of the Republic urged parents to take responsibilities for their children.

According to KNCHR, in the recent case of abductions, 82 people have been reported to disappear since June 29 are still missing as at now.

The latest disappearances included two young individuals who had posted on the social accounts an AL generates image of the President lying in a coffin.

Judge Bahati Mwamuye ordered the police to present the five in court on Tuesday or explain under oath the circumstances of the matter or their whereabouts.

According to reports, none of the missing were present in court.

With the police denial in involvement of the disappearances, activists have questioned why they do not appear to be investigating them.

These are clear signals that our moral fabric is at risk of decay, exacerbated by various factors, including the manipulation of digital technology, particularly social media, to amplify anti-social behavior and erode moral values. 

President Ruto further said in his new year’s address.
