Pope Francis Urges Lebanon to Elect New President Without Delay

Pope Francis has called on Lebanon to elect new President. According to the reports, he said at Saint Peter’s Square at the end of Sunday Angelus prayer. The urgent election of the new President would get the governing institutions functioning again. I address an urgent invitation to all Lebanese politicians to elect the President of the Republic immediately. He spoke. Lebanon institutions need to start functioning normally again to undertake the necessary reforms and sustain the country’s role as an example of peaceful cohabitation between different religions.  Pope Francis added. Lebanon as a country has been running on its own, without a President since Michael Aoun’s term ended in October 2022. Lebanese parliamentary Speaker has therefore called for a Presidential election for January 9 in a bid to end a two-year leadership vacuum. Neither of the two main blocs in Parliament; the Iran backed Hezbollah and its opponents, have the majority required to elect a Head of State and they have been unable to agree a consensus candidate.

IG Kanja Dismisses Allegation that Peter Mwathi Was Arrested

The National Police Service has dismissed allegations of arresting former Limuru Member of Parliament Peter Mwathi. The allegation cames after yesterday’s commotion during a funeral attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Limuru, Kiambu County. According to the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, police officers did not arrest Mwathi as alleged since he is not a person of interest to the police. Kanja also noted that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers in Limuru had commenced investigations to establish the cause of the fracas during the function and bring to book the perpetrators. We also came here because we wanted to find the whereabouts of the former MP Peter Mwathi because he was abducted by men in Subaru,” Thang’wa noted. Earlier today, the DCI summoned the senator to shed light on the melee that ensued during the burial. The Senator was ordered to avail himself at the Nyeri DCI headquarters to provide details about the destruction of property. The lawmaker noted that he would honour the summon, however, he called on President William Ruto’s administration to reinstate security to the former DP. Court to Hear Case Challenging IMEI Number Declaration Requirement on December 18

Case challenging government’s requirement for passengers entering Kenya to declare the IMEI has been directed to December 18th by the High Court. Justice Chacha Mwita directed that respondents in the case to file and serve their respondents before the hearing date. Last week Friday the court has issued orders that stopped the government from implementing orders requiring passengers entering Kenya to declare the IMEI numbers of any mobile devices they intend to use while in the country. The policy of registering IMEI’s aimed at preventing the rise of unregistered devices that often avoid tax and safety standards. It was set to take place as from 1st January 2025. Katiba institute on the other hand argued that the mandatory disclosure of IMEI numbers poses a significant risk to an individuals’ rights and freedoms. It will diminish the right to privacy and even pose risks against an individual’s life warranting them to State surveillance. IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity, and it’s a unique 15–17-digit number that identifies a mobile phone. Every mobile phone number has an IMEI number, which is stored in the Equipment Identity Register (EIR)

New Bill proposed seeking to end live streaming of presidential election results

A new bill has been proposed in parliament seeking to stop the live streaming of presidential election results.  According to the bill, the IEBC will  only post results online including portal uploads for public access and deliver them physically. The bill currently at the senate, calls for the deletion of Section 39 of the Elections Act, which currently mandates the IEBC to facilitate public access by live-streaming results, stating that such broadcasts are for informational purposes only and do not form the basis for declaring election outcomes. Moreover, polling station results would remain final, and the presidential election results must be electronically transmitted, tallied, announced, and declared before results from other elective posts. Relating it  to President Ruto, many have termed the proposal as a scheming way to rig the election in 2027. Others have criticized the bill raising concerns about transparency and the accessibility of real-time election updates.  In February 2022 president william Ruto who by then was the Deputy President was against the same proposal.

Kalonzo to File a Petition Against Ruto’s Government Over the Cancelled Adani Deals

Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has revealed that he will soon be moving to court to seek directives compelling the government to shed more light on what the Indian company contract cancellation means. Speaking during a church service at Jesus Teaching Ministry in Embakasi East, Kalonzo disclosed that he would be personally moving to court after the cancellation left some gaps Kalonzo noted that should the court grant the orders compelling the government to act on his petition, then Kenyans will get the chance to hear how the government benefited from the engagement with Adani. ”We have work to do now and we will not just be talking here and there, for example, we will be moving to the courts on November 27, so that we can get directions on what William Ruto’s cancellations mean,’’ Kalonzo declared. He moreover noted that the petition will seek to answer some of the questions Kenyans had raised in the past over the much interest that the government had invested in the deal. ”We are going to get them exposed. Let us pray that all the wrongdoings of the country will be put open and in the public so that every thief can be known for the nation’s complete healing,’’ he noted. Kalonzo’s declaration came a few days after President William Ruto gave orders directing the cancellation of Adani Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Kenya Electricity Transmission Company contract talks that would see the Indian conglomerate take over the management of the infrastructures on concessionary terms.

Gachagua calls out Kenya Kwanza leaders for allegedly being afraid of President Ruto

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called out all the Kenya Kwanza leaders for allegedly being afraid of President William Ruto. Speaking during a church service at the AIPCA Kangari in Kigumo, Murang’a County, the former DP told the church that he was among the only leaders who could openly call out the President when he felt some of Ruto’s decisions were detrimental to the citizens, citing the collapsed Adani deals as a classic example. “The Adani issue was the source of friction between myself and the President. In the Cabinet, I was the only one who could speak the truth. All others were afraid. When the president stared down at them, they all bowed down. Whenever Cabinet Secretaries were in disagreement, they used to ask me to tell the President. Nobody can tell the president this is not right.” He further disclosed that he was viewed as an enemy of progress whenever he tried to speak up about the Adani deal. “I told the president this Adani deal was plagued with flaws and the people did not want it, and he despised me for it. And it was put out to look like I was opposing government projects,” Gachagua said. According to the former DP, the government only cut ties with the Indian conglomerate because the United States government blew the whistle. Recently, there have been concerns over Gachagua’s safety after the former  DP claimed to have been trailed by unmarked cars on Thursday, November 21. Through his social media pages, the former DP said unmarked cars were parked outside his house before trailing him to the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), Kerarapon.
