Clergy Call Out Leaders for Their Greed as Cases of Abductions, Murder Increase: “Government Must Protect Lives”

The Clergy has high lightened about the insensitivity of Kenya elective leaders in carrying out their tasks. They said in their statement that the elective leaders have been mandated to fulfill roles conferred to them by the constitution. They also stated that the elective leaders are among the highest paid legislatures in the world. We are troubled by their heightened insensitivity and irresponsibility in carrying out their tasks allowing themselves to be captured and compromised in corrupt deals. Corruption may not always involve financial benefits but the unjust use of possessions and authority and abuse of office. The clergy stated. The clergy said that the massive greed witnessed was shocking and heartbreaking, the violation of human rights and freedom of speech. They added that they were appalled by the blatant recarrying incidents of reports in abductions, disappearances, torture and killings of Kenyans to decry the increasing murder of women. This has caused great consternation, anger and disgust. Many families are still grappling with the loss of their children who were brutally killed, injured or went missing following what is referred to as the Genz demonstrations in June 2024. Many of these victims had raised concerns about rampant corruption within and outside the government.  The Clergy said. They insisted they wanted to know the abductors, if the government was unable to stop the abduction of the victims. In relation to this, the clergy said that the government must protect the lives of every human person in Kenya as stipulated in the constitution of the republic of Kenya article 126. They added the government must take the lead in following the law which the leadership took an oath to uphold and defend at all times.

Other gunshots were being fired in several neighborhoods of the capital. Due to this, many schools and stores were shuttered as people feared more attacks by the powerful armed gangs. They controlled 80 percent of the city even though the Kenyan military had been deployed. United states of Tuesday called Haiti leaders and urged them to put personal interests aside and concentrate on getting the country back on its feet. The nations have long been struggling with political stability, poverty, natural disasters and gang violence but it all deteriorated on end of February when armed gangs launched the attack in the capital with the aim of overthrowing the Prime Minister Aeriel Henry. Even though Kenyan soldiers had been deployed in June, violence has continued to emerge in Haiti. MP Gathoni Wamuchomba writes A Letter to Speaker of the National Assembly seeking adjournment of house business to debate the SHIF

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has penned a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, seeking adjournment of house business to debate the Social Health Insurance Fund(SHIF). Wamuchomba wants speaker Wetangula to consider her request for adjournment, arguing that the SHIF system has several inefficiencies.  ”There exists a growing uncertainty and confusion on the Implementation of SHIF countrywide. This Morning I wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly asking to adjourn the house business to Debate on SHIF. Achieving this requires fundamental changes to create a health system that can deliver. The current system is riddled with inefficiencies and fragmentation. The resources and funds are either misused or overused resulting in substandard health outcomes. Kenya has been on a journey to fix the healthcare system to make it more equal, accessible, and affordable for all.’’ She further notes that the government failed to adhere to a court order that declared certain sections of the Social Health Insurance Act unconstitutional, yet proceeded with the rollout. According to her, the Parliament was given 90 days to review the suspended provisions, but is yet to act on this despite the rollout. According to the lawmaker, numerous legal cases concerning the SHIF are still pending in court, making it inappropriate for the government to proceed with implementing the program. ”In this regard and the above explained grave situation, I wish to indulge you to consider as a matter of priority to adjourn the business of the house on 12th November 2024 to debate and deliberate on resolving the deplorable health crisis facing the country.I want to draw your attention to the fact that on 19 July 2024, the High Court declared some provisions of the Social Health Insurance Act (SHIA), the Digital Health Act (DHA), and the Primary Health Care Act (PHCA) unconstitutional but suspended the effect of its judgment for 120 days to allow for Parliament to make amendments to the inherent unconstitutional provisions and public participation in the respective Acts. This is yet to be done by Parliament. There are still legal challenges in court on the implementation of SHIF.’’ MP Wamuchomba said that the SHIF system was set for failure after what she termed as a public admission from top government officials as challenges that the SHIF scheme was marred with. Wamuchomba is a leader who is mostly known for her hard stand on public interest matters
