Martha Karua Accuses Raila Odinga for allegedly betraying her

NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua has taken a swipe at former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for allegedly betraying her following his controversial decision to side with President William Ruto’s administration. During an interview on NTV, the former Azimio principal accused Odinga of hijacking the Gen Z protests to advance his political agenda. Karua noted that Raila was expected to side with the youthful protesters but instead chose to support the government. “When we become opposition leaders, we owe a certain duty to Kenyans, whether or not, we are in the Gen Z moments, the Gen Zs who did the work and died for this country. As leaders, we must protect and stand with the people. So it’s not only the Gen Zs I also personally felt betrayed,” the NARC-Kenya party leader noted. According to Karua, some of the opposition leaders within the Azimio coalition had become the mouthpiece of Ruto’s government. Karua went on to hit out at Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed and Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho for siding with the government despite previously being in opposition. “That is why there is no way we can be in a coalition that no longer serves the purpose of the people. We need to defend the people, we need to call the Ruto regime to account and you cannot do that with one leg in and another one out,” Karua stated. She moreover advised Raila to consider formalising his agreement with President Ruto. “I call upon my friend and brother Raila Odinga to do the honourable thing, have a post-election coalition agreement with Ruto so that they are in government through a proper political marriage solemnised by the registrar of political parties,” Karua suggested.

Kalonzo Welcome Gachagua to Join Them in New Coalition

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has finally addressed the speculations of a possible coalition with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking after attending a burial ceremony in Embu Kalonzo, DAP Kenya’s Eugene Wamalwa and former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, stated that Gachagua was welcome to join the opposition leaders. Kalonzo further exuded confidence in the coalition’s progress, noting that Azimio would continue with its opposition functions uninterrupted despite the new government appointments. “Either in government or in opposition, as we almost begin January, we want to tell those who joined the government to go alone, but the coalition would continue to operate. We must have a new coalition,” said Kalonzo. Wamalwa also echoed Kalonzo’s sentiments and expressed his approval of a coalition with Gachagua, urging Kenyans to support the movement. “We heard that the former DP said that he was ready to join hands with Kalonzo and Wamalwa, do you agree that Gachagua should join us?” Wamalwa. Their sentiments come a day after Gachagua expressed interest in joining hands with Azimio chiefs ahead of the next general elections.

ORPP dismisses claims that it has registered a political party founded By Gachagua

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has dismissed claims that it had registered a political party founded by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Through a statement, the ORPP flagged down a notice making rounds on the internet marking it as fake and juxtaposed the fake notices alongside their earlier notice that was shared via MyGov, a weekly newspaper published by the Government, on Tuesday. The fake notice noted that the Registrar of Political Parties had registered the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) with Rigathi Gachagua, Cleophas Malala, and Gathoni Wamuchomba listed as founding members. According to the Registrar of Political Parties through Ann Nderitu, her office received three parties none of which had Gachagua as a founder member.  The three parties, the Forum for Economic Development Agenda (FEDA), Kenya United Generation Party (KUG) and the Future Party (TFP) were in the process of registration, the registrar communicated. “In line with Section 5 (2) (a) of the Political Parties Act, 2011 the Registrar of Political Parties is in the process of provisionally registering the proposed political parties,” read the ORPP’s statement. This comes barely a day after the former deputy president hinted at joining forces with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka in a quest for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
