DP Kindiki Breaks Silence After Weeks of Absence

Deputy president Kithure Kindiki who has been missing from the public for weeks now resurfaced on Saturday, desmissing  rumours of a split between him and his boss president William Ruto.  Speaking during the wedding ceremony of the son of Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano in Tigoni, Kindiki revealed that he has been on holiday and his absence did not have anything to do with claims of division. ”I am left with only a few hours as my holiday is coming to an end. The DP continued to note that after taking some time off, he now feels ready to resume offering his support to his boss in steering the country forward. ”Don’t, don’t fall into the trap of triviality, small things, and small issues. Little things, and so forth. We have a business and am glad the president allowed me a few days off.I feel so energised, and I believe that this is a year that all of us will rally, support the president, and take Kenya to the next level.”  Claims that the DP and his boss are not on good terms  emerged after Kindiki, who since taking office in November has been with the Head of State in many major public events, quietly left the public space, making no appearances even for the burial of National Assembly Moses Wetangula’s mother on Friday.

Embu Mourners Reject Presidential Tribunal During Kivuti’s Family Funeral

Public Service CS Justin Muturi was unable to read President Ruto’s condolence message during the burial of former Embu Senator Kivuti’s son, Eric Kivuti. Eric Kivuti died last week at MP Shah hospital after a short illness. The Head of State was unable to attend the service since he was at the burial of the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula’s mother in Bungoma. Nevertheless, he had written a message to be read to the mourners. I have been given a message of condolence form His Excellency the President. Cabinet Secretary Muturi began as the mourners booed at him. Sasa pale nimefika mwisho ni kwamba nimepewa ujumbe. Niwapatie. Nisome ama nisisosme. The crowd responded by bellowing ‘usisome’. I have been advised wisely, you know, as a former speaker, nimeskia hiyo kura ya makelele.  The Public Service CS said. With the mourners’ demand, CS Muturi was forced to adhere to it and handed over the condolence message to Kivuti’s famly. This was the second time the people of Embu had expressed their dislike towards the President. Recently, 24-year-old Billy Mwangi was abducted at a barbershop in Embu four days before Christmas. Since then, his family has been seeking answers in Embu to no avail. They have also been protests towards the matter, not only to Billy Mwangi but several Kenyans who have been abducted as well.

Gachagua Responds to MP Ichung’wah after the Alleged Abduction claims

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has responded to claims of sponsoring abductions of Kenyans just a few hours after  the National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah made the claims. Speaking during the funeral service of the son of former Embu Speaker Lenny Kivuti, Eric Mutugi, Gachagua slammed those accusing him of sponsoring the abductions, stating that the government is finding it had to contain his sincerity on key issues. Gachagua went on to termed Ichung’wah’s  accusations as mere diversionary tactics employed by the state. ”The problem with Kenya is the issue of constant lies and that is probably why I was axed from the government because I stood for the truth,” Gachagua asserted. He asked the government to give closure on what exactly was happening and on the whereabouts of the recently abducted Kenyan youths. ”The president recently said that there was no evidence of abductions almost five times. I have just seen his political machine, that Member of Parliament he uses, lying to people that I am the one abducting people,” he added. He also challenged the government to stop viewing Kenyans from a different intelligence perspective and instead release the seven abducted youths. ”The people of Kenya are very intelligent. And you people are running out of lies. You have lied to the point that you have started believing in your own lies. So, those young men who have been abducted here, who are they? Who are they? Those young men have been abducted.”

Gachagua

MP Ichung’wah: “Gachagua was the orchestrator of abductions so that he could blame President Ruto.’’

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has recently accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of being responsible for the increased cases of abductions in the country. Speaking during the burial of Moses Wetangula’s mother, Ichung’wah accused Gachagua of orchestrating the abductions.  His comment comes barely a week after Gachagua took a swipe at President William Ruto over the abductions. Ichung’wah moreover blamed Natembeya for not using the powers he had during his tenure as the Police Regional Commander to expose those behind the abductions. “Gachagua was the orchestrator of abductions so that he could blame President Ruto. Shame on you Governor Natembeya. You cannot complain about abductions when you were the key abductor of Kenyans under the last regime,” Ichung’wah said. Natembeya received a hostile reception at the burial and aftter several interventions, the crowed allowed him to speak. “We want abductions to end. The youth are using foul language on social media. That needs to change. If it cannot change, people should not be killed or abducted because of it,” Natembeya noted. Cases of abductions have been on the rise in the country, with the latest incident leaving families of six youths abducted during the Christmas period wondering where their loved ones are.

Yoweri Museveni Challenges Raila to Champion Africa’s Development as AU Chair Aspirant

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has challenged Kenya’s African Union Commission chairperson hopeful Raila Odinga to help African leaders mobilise support for development purposes, should he land the position. Speaking during the closing ceremony of the Piny Luo Cultural Festival 2024 in Siaya County, Museveni noted that Uganda will fully support the candidature of Odinga for the AUC position. He went on to  challenge the opposition veteran to ensure that he helped the regional leaders brainstorm on how they could best transform Africa. “We’re supporting the candidature of Raila for AUC chairmanship. He will help us to do mobilisation and brainstorming, but the real power is with us here,” Museveni explained.  He however cautioned that Raila’s success in the upcoming elections will be entirely dependent on how the government supports him. “Those in power can decide whether to move or not. For him, he can talk he’s like a preacher, like John the Baptist,” he added.  President Ruto on the other hand, speaking at the same event maintained that Kenya is hopeful that Raila will land the seat with elections scheduled in February.  Ruto revealed that before Kenya flouted the idea of supporting Raila, they jointly sought the advice of the Ugandan leader, who helped them reach a consensus with other East African heads to support him.  “Raila is not a candidate for Kenya, he is a candidate for East Africa. Before we rolled out his candidature, we went to Mzee Museveni and spoke to all East African heads of state and confirmed we have the right candidate with the right credentials to champion the unity, progress, and success of Africa,” Ruto stated. The AUC chairpersonship election will take place during the 38th AU Summit in Addis Ababa in February.

President Ruto Acknowledges Police Abuses During Protests

President William Ruto has conceded abuses by Kenya police during demonstrations. This he said in his new year’s address to the nation. Recently there have been protests against abductions that have sparked outrage in the country. It cannot be denied that there have been instances of excessive and extrajudicial actions by members of the security services.  President Ruto stated during the new year’s address. That said, it is crucial to remember that every freedom has its limit, and that public safety and order must always supersede the desire for unchecked liberty.  The Head of State added. In another speech, the Head of the Republic urged parents to take responsibilities for their children. According to KNCHR, in the recent case of abductions, 82 people have been reported to disappear since June 29 are still missing as at now. The latest disappearances included two young individuals who had posted on the social accounts an AL generates image of the President lying in a coffin. Judge Bahati Mwamuye ordered the police to present the five in court on Tuesday or explain under oath the circumstances of the matter or their whereabouts. According to reports, none of the missing were present in court. With the police denial in involvement of the disappearances, activists have questioned why they do not appear to be investigating them. These are clear signals that our moral fabric is at risk of decay, exacerbated by various factors, including the manipulation of digital technology, particularly social media, to amplify anti-social behavior and erode moral values.  President Ruto further said in his new year’s address.
